Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. It affects over 65 million people worldwide and over 3 million Nigerians β making it one of the most common neurological conditions.

Stay with the person. Check the time when the seizure begins. Most seizures end naturally within 1β3 minutes.
Ease the person to the ground. Cushion their head with something soft. Remove glasses and loosen tight neckwear.
Do NOT hold the person down or try to stop their movements. Do NOT put anything in their mouth β this is a dangerous myth.
Gently roll the person onto their side (recovery position) to prevent choking. Keep the airway clear at all times.
After the seizure, speak calmly and reassure them. They may feel confused or tired. Stay with them until fully alert.
