Life-Saving Knowledge

Seizure First Aid

Knowing what to do during a seizure can save a life. Follow these steps to help safely and effectively.

1

Stay Calm & Time It

Stay with the person. Check the time when the seizure begins. Most seizures end naturally within 1–3 minutes.

2

Keep Them Safe

Ease the person to the ground. Cushion their head with something soft. Remove glasses and loosen tight neckwear.

3

Never Restrain

Do NOT hold the person down or try to stop their movements. Do NOT put anything in their mouth β€” this is a dangerous myth.

4

Turn Them on Their Side

Gently roll the person onto their side (recovery position) to prevent choking. Keep the airway clear at all times.

5

Comfort & Reassure

After the seizure, speak calmly and reassure them. They may feel confused or tired. Stay with them until fully alert.

6

Call for Help When Needed

Call +234 701 351 9861 or emergency services if: seizure lasts over 5 min, no recovery, injury, or first-ever seizure.

🚨
Emergency? Call immediately: +234 701 351 9861 If the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes, does not stop, or the person does not regain consciousness β€” this is a medical emergency.
